I imagine the office will be shared between Mike German in his role as an Assembly Member and either the regional Liberal Democrats or the constituency party, with costs/payment split between the two. Which would make it perfectly acceptable. This is common practice amongst all parties.

Also, lots of AMs employ family. Its for people to make up their own mind about whether that should be allowed or not, but its not against the rules. Same goes for the 2nd home claims.

Also, Veronica Watkins/German uses both names with no real pattern, even within the Lib Dems, so I don't think it is correct to say this is some sort of deliberate ploy.

If anything, she probably used German in Torfaen because of the name recognition.

So to sun up Paul, you were wrong to add the two sums together, but you think that Northern Rock will never be worth anything again.

My father taught me never to take financial advice froma bankrupt; I think you're making his point rather well for him.

Because you muppet the equity will never be bought back, so the money will be lost. The government already owns the company, increasing the capital base won't increase it's return a penny. Doh!

The net exposure is not increased but the final losses are now £3 billion closer to being realised.

It's not so much more councillors - as more councillors from different parties you want. Doesn't matter if you have three, four or five councillors representing Morpeth if they are all from one party.

But - then I've a bad case of sour grapes!

Tom,
I'm deeply indebted to the Great SJG for the understanding that, if you examine the facts of evolution, the theory then becomes the most rational scientific explanation for the facts.
Similarly with Big Bang - identifiable facts, like the expansion of the universe, provide the backdrop to the theory. Similarly General Relativity; it's a theory which explains observable facts.
It's only when you separate theories from the observable facts that brought them into being that the literalists start to have any kind of base for their arguments.

Good post, but just to clarify: I had no intention of opening the door to the literalists. I simply wanted to acknowledge that the debate exists and explain where I stand and to put that in the context of my personal faith. As to evolution being fact rather than theory, I've always assumed it was the Theory of Evolution (the clue's in the title); it doesn't explain everything, but it's the closest we've got so far to doing so. Same as The Big Bang Theory (not the sitcom, though I also like that)- it's a theory, not a fact. Or take the theory of general relativity... you see where I'm going with this, don't you...

Grieve speaks for the Shadow Cabinet, which in case you hadn't noticed includes David Cameron. Ergo he supports such policy. You really don't know much about collective responsibility do you?
